DEVELOPING DEPRESSION ACTION PLAN








 
Develop an Action Plan for responding to your early warning signs, against referring to your Wellness Tool Box
 
The following is a sample plan for dealing with early warning signs:
 
Do the things on my daily maintenance plan whether I feel like it or not:
  1. Tell supporter/counselor how I am feeling and ask for their advice; ask them to help me figure out how to take the action they suggest.
  2. Peer counsel at least once daily
  3. Do at least one focusing exercise a day
  4. Do at least three ten minutes relaxation exercise each day
  5. Write in my journal for at least fifteen minutes each day
  6. Send at least an hour involved in an activity.  I enjoy each day until early warning signs diminish.
  7. Ask other to take over my responsibilities for a day.
  8. Check in with my physician, Therapist, or other health care professionals.
  9. Spend some time with my (pet).
  10. Read a good book.
  11. Dance, Sing, listen to good music, play a musical instrument
  12. Exercise
  13. Go fishing 
WHEN THINGS ARE BREAKING DOWN OR GETTING MUCH WORSE.
 
  1. Feeling oversensitive and fragile
  2. Irrational responses to events and actions of others
  3. Feeling very needy
  4. Being unable to sleep
  5. Sleeping all the time
  6. Avoiding eating
  7. Wanting to be totally alone
  8. Substance abuse
  9. Taking out anger on others
  10. Chain smoking
  11. Eating too much or not enough
 
WHEN AN ACTION PLAN THAT YOU THINK WILL HELP REDUCE YOUR SYMPTIOMS WHEN THEY HAVE PROGRESSED TO THIS POINT:
 
  1. Call my doctor or other health care professional, ask for and follow their instructions
  2. Arrange for someone to stay with me around the clock until my symptoms subside
  3. Make arrangements so I can get help right away if my symptoms worsen
  4. Make sure I am doing everything on my Daily Maintenance List
  5. Arrange and take at least three days off from any responsibilities
  6. Have at least two peer counseling sessions
  7. Do three deep breathing exercises
  8. Do two focusing exercises
  9. Write in my journal for at least one half hour
